Taking proper care of your carpet and cleaning it is definitely frustrating. Have you wasted an entire day shampooing your carpet? You probably have since this is a pretty complex chore.
How Often Do You Vacuum Your Carpet?
A huge part of maintaining your carpet clean is to vacuum it. Of course, this is not the only thing you must do, however, it’s an important step to take… on regular basis.
All carpets absorb a huge amount of dirt, dust, and impurities that are in your home. On top of that, your carpet is a breeding ground for germs. Unfortunately, your vacuum cleaner won’t be able to get rid of everything but it will remove the debris that are sitting on top of the surface and will limit the impurities that go deep into the carpet. This is why vacuum cleaning on regular basis is so crucial. That way you will be able to avoid dirty patches and discolouration from forming.
What Else Can You Do?
The next important step you need to take is to… use baking soda. Yes, I said it – you need baking soda. You do not have to spend a lot of money on special cleaners nor do you need to make your own cleaners using natural ingredients. If I have to be honest they will probably do more damage than good. Why? Because your carpet is made out of such delicate fabric that can easily be damaged or stained.
I avoid all cleaners and simply use baking soda. It’s the safest way to freshen up your carpet as well as deodorize it without worrying that any damage will occur.
I like to mix two cups of baking soda with 15 drops of lavender essential oil. Not only will your carpet deodorizer smell amazing but it will also have antibacterial properties because the lavender essential oil has them. Then, once my powder is ready, I sprinkle it all over my carpet then let it sit overnight.
Then, in the morning, I grab my vacuum cleaner and remove the powder.
